In order to study the effect on the artherosclerosis in rabbits, we made use of Persicae Semen with activating blood flow and removing blood stasis.
The results were as follows:
1. In Persicae Semen group, the contents of HDL cholesterol showed increase of 17.2 percent in comparison with control group, but theses results were not significant.
2. In Persicae Semen group, the contents of LDL cholesterol showed significant decrease of 31.1 percent in comparison with control group.
3. In area of the interior orifice in aorta, Persicae Semen group had a increase effect of 14.0 percent in comparison with control group.
4. In Persicae Semen group, atheroma formation in tunica intima vasorum of aorta showed decrease effect in comparison with control group.
5. Persicae Semen group had a decrease effect of mucoproteins formation in elastic fibers of aortic wall in comparison with control group.
6. Persicae Semen group had a decrease effect of elastic fiber lession in tunica media of aortic wall in comparison with control group.
7. Persicae Semen group and control group had not a remarkable effect of collagen fiber lession in tunica media of aortic wall.
8. Persicae Semen group had not a remarkable decrease effect of fat accumulation in liver.
According to the above experimental results, it could be concluded that Persicae Semen had a good effect on the artherosclerosis induced by intake of excessive fat. And we can judge that Persicae Semen will be widely used in case that morphological changes in the main artery are occurred.
